Origin: IE [Indo-European]X [probably] [00] *He\/obhri- `awn'
Etymology: Hoffmann, BB 18, 287 compared Skt. ábhri- `hoe, pickaxe', which Wackernagel accepts, s. Latte's Hesychius. But Szemerényi, Gnomon 43, 1971, 658 rightly asks whether the meanings are compatible.
